Backlink

A link from another website pointing to yours. The primary currency of SEO.

A backlink is any hyperlink on an external site that points to your domain. Google treats backlinks as votes of confidence — the more high-quality sites that link to you, the more Google trusts your site. Not all backlinks are equal: dofollow links from high-DR sites move rankings the most; nofollow links pass no ranking signal (though they can still drive traffic). Indie founders build backlinks through directory submissions, guest posts, and being genuinely useful enough that people link to you unprompted. Backlink profiles compound over time — a link earned today keeps paying for years.
